Congratulations to Danika Hammond on being selected as a Wesbrook Scholar, one of UBC’s most prestigious designations, awarded annually to 20 senior students with outstanding academic performance, leadership, and involvement in student and community activities.* Danika is a fourth-year, double Major in Political Science and First Nations and Indigenous Studies.
In reflecting on being selected as a Wesbrook Scholar, Danika said,
“I am extremely honoured to be named a Wesbrook Scholar. I grew up in a village of under 200 citizens and attending a university of over 58,000 students was a huge exciting step for me. In the past four years, I have found my niche communities among this impressive campus. I have been a Residence Advisor, an active member of UBCC350 and founded the AMS Hula Hooping club. I also was a student of the Haida Gwaii Semester program, volunteered in the Philippines and interned at the World Health Organization.
It has been a meaningful experience and I am overwhelmed by and grateful for the recognition from UBC for my involvements. I intend to complete my First Nations Indigenous Studies research practicum in the coming year, and afterward, explore Masters programs in either First Nations Studies or Political Science. I am thankful for the community at UBC and the ways it has supported me and our incredibly active student body. I am proud to be a UBC student and a Wesbrook Scholar.”
