Information Session: African Union/Ethiopia (Field Research Course) – POLI 464D and 464F

International Security from African Perspectives: African Union/Ethiopia (Field Research Course) – POLI 464D and 464F

This Field Research Course (POLI 464) offers students the opportunity to conduct expert interviews on contemporary African international security issues at the seat of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The course builds on and enhances the UBC-based undergraduate seminar on African Interstate Relations (POLI464D). POLI464D examines key actors and dynamics of contemporary African interstate politics, and allows participants to familiarise themselves with two contemporary African security challenges, one of which students choose autonomously and explore through independent research. The Field Research Course allows POLI464D graduates to deepen their understanding of their chosen security issue, and of African international politics more generally.

This is an Arts Research Abroad Funded program, and students must apply and be accepted to be able to participate in both courses. This program is open only to 3rd and 4th year undergraduate students in UBC Vancouver’s Majors programs in Political Science or International Relations, or in UBC Vancouver’s Political Science Honours or Political Science Honours with International Relations programs.
