In her new book, UBC Political Science alum Nilo Tabrizy (BA’2011), along with Fatemeh Jamalpour, documents the spirit and legacy of the Women, Life, and Freedom movement in Iran. Hailed as “an essential book” and “a powerful and moving chronicle” For the Sun After Long Nights not only tells the story of the 2022 women-led protests but also offers unique perspectives on what it means to cover the stories that are closest to one’s heart.
Now a reporter with The Washington Post, Tabrizy will join Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair in Race, Ethnicity, Migration, and Identity, Neda Maghbouleh (UBC Sociology), on campus to discuss the intersections of journalism and scholarship, the power of friendship and feminism, and the enduring role of art and memory in movements for change.
