The Department of Political Science offers a centralized Concession Assessment Centre (CAC) to facilitate makeup assessments for students who miss an in-class quiz or midterm if the instructor permits a makeup assessment.
The CAC operates every Friday from Week 3 through Week 12 of each winter term on Fridays from 4 pm to 6 pm. This service provides a consistent and predictable environment for makeup assessments.
How to Access the CAC
- Request a Concession: If you miss an assessment, you must contact your course instructor via email immediately and, if appropriate, request an in-term academic concession through Arts Advising. (See the in-term concession section of this page.)
**Please note this system is independent of the Centre for Accessibility. If you require accessibility-related accommodations, please work directly with your instructor and the Centre for Accessibility. - Instructor Approval: The decision to grant a make-up assessment remains entirely with your instructor. If your request is approved, your instructor will coordinate with the CAC to schedule your session.
- Scheduling: All CAC assessments take place on Friday afternoons at 4 pm. You are expected to make time to attend the scheduled session. If you cannot attend the first available Friday, you must receive explicit permission from your instructor to write during a subsequent week.
Assessment Day Procedures
- Arrival: You must arrive at the assessment room by 4:00 pm for check-in.
- Start Time: The assessment session begins promptly at 4:10 pm.
- Identification: You are required to present your UBC Student ID to the Exam Coordinator and sign in before receiving your assessment.
- Materials: Bring only the materials explicitly authorized by your instructor. The instructor will have provided any additional instructions to the CAC Coordinator. All belongings must be stored as directed by the CAC Coordinator.
**Please note the CAC is for midterm and in-class assessments only. It does not administer official final assessments during the final exam periods.
