Are you an undergraduate who is thinking about studying Political Science or Public Policy at the graduate level?
UBC Political Sciences’ upcoming Grad School Info Session will provide current undergraduates with the opportunity to ask a panel of UBC faculty (POLI), staff (POLI & MPPGA), and graduate students (POLI & MPPGA) questions like:
- How do I know if grad school is right for me?
- How do I write a strong grad school application?
- How do I ask a professor for a letter of reference?
- What graduate program options are open to students with a UBC POLI or IR B.A.? How do I decide between these options?
- And more!
Event Agenda:
Question Wall & Pizza (5:30 – 5:45): We will be opening up the event space at 5:30 to allow attendees to contribute responses to some question stations which we will have set up around the room. The purpose of these stations will be to give those in attendance a better sense of where their peers are at with their post-graduation plans and the questions and concerns which they are carrying with them into their post-graduation planning. This will also be an opportunity for folks to get a slice (or two!) of pizza and mingle before we move into the panel/Q&A portion of the evening.
Part 1 (5:45 – 6:30): UBC faculty and staff will open the event with a discussion about deciding and applying to go to graduate school followed by an audience Q&A. During this portion of the event, we plan to cover:
- The different types of graduate programs open to POLI and IR Majors;
- How one knows if graduate school is the right next step for them; and
- Advice on how to approach the grad school application process.
Part 2 (6:30 – 7:00 PM): UBC POLI and MPPGA graduate students will speak about their own experiences of the grad school application process and grad school generally before responding to audience questions.
