UBC Political Science students participate in international learning projects

Cuso International partnered with Dr. Richard Price’s University of British Columbia (UBC) Political Science 373: Ethics in World Politics class to undertake research on impact investing. The six participating UBC students presented the three modules they developed over the eight-week e-volunteering assignment.

On March 8th, 2019, the Australian Institute of International Affairs awarded Miriam Matejova, Stefan Parker and Peter Dauvergne the Boyer Prize for 2018, for their article, “The politics of repressing environmentalists as agents of foreign influence” (Australian Journal of International Affairs, Volume 72, Issue 2, 2018).

PhD Student Miriam Matejova Publishes New Book of Stories on Canadian Immigrant Women

In Wherever I Find Myself, the third anthology in the Canadian women series, edited by Matejova, over twenty Canadian immigrant women from a variety of ethnicities and intersecting identities share their diverse and personal stories. The stories touch on much more than the discussion of diversity in Canada, and rather detail the “emotionally complex journey” of immigrant women, including battling feelings of loneliness and isolation.

In a new article in PS: Political Science and Politics, entitled “The Role of Social Group Membership on Classroom Participation”, UBC Political Science PhD Candidates Şule Yaylaci and Edana Beauvais analyze how social group membership influences classroom participation, and offer strategies for how instructors may increase student participation in the classroom.
