Prof. Emeritus Richard Johnston elected to American Academy of Arts & Sciences

Congratulations to Professor Emeritus Richard Johnston on his election to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences (AAAS)!

The Academy is one of the United States’ oldest learned societies, recognizing excellence and leadership across disciplines. The Academy is also an independent research centre convening leaders from across disciplines, professions, and perspectives to address significant challenges.

Professor Johnston held the Canada Research Chair in Public Opinion, Elections, and Representation from 2011 until his retirement in 2020. All of these themes are implicated in his current work, which is a monograph on the Canada’s 21st-century party system. He has written several other books, including Public Opinion and Public Policy in Canada: Questions of Confidence, Letting the People Decide: Dynamics of a Canadian Election, and the more recent The Canadian Party System: An Analytic History
